Quick update.
Apr. 10th, 2007 12:15 pmJust wanted to announced that at least one of the biggest problems with the move has been solved in the best way possible.
Yesterday I tried calling the U-Haul lot where I rented the truck regarding the problems I had with the truck, and with their corporate office, and was told that I would need to call back today to speak to the manager.
I spoke to the manager today. Once I had identified myself, and said as calmly and reasonably as I could that I had some concerns about the charges for the truck, he immediately announced that I would not be charged anything for the rental. Not one penny. He went on to say that he himself was having some similarly problematic issues with their corporate office at the moment simply trying to find out where the truck had finally been towed off to. There was no hesitation or argument, and he ensured me that there was no way that there would be a charge for this, as he called it, "nightmare experience".
This is the best possible resolution I could have hoped for; particularly as the terms of their contract state that they're not responsible for any problems resulting from non-functional equipment. Not only am I absolved from paying for something that had caused me such trouble, but I'm also relieved of one of the biggest expenses of the move itself, since the rental would have ended up costing me over $200.
I could have hoped for a return to normal work on Sunday (instead of having to deal with getting the broken truck towed), but having that day off to rest, and to work on pulling the new place together into some semblance of livability was far more valuable to me. And I will still manage to get a little overtime in this week despite having a bit more moving to do this weekend.
I know most of the people on my list are not Christians, and do not believe as I do; but I really feel the providential hand of God in this, despite my negative attitude at the outset. I can feel His blessing in my life, and I know that He will also bless those who have been so helpful for us with both physical and emotional support throughout this process.
