Wedding Planning Eating My Life
Oct. 1st, 2007 05:28 pmJust to let everyone know that I'm still alive, and I haven't gone on a shooting/suicide spree from the stress. For those who don't know,
deadrose and I are finally formalizing our partnership, and our ceremony will be Saturday, October 6th, the anniversary of our first date.
So far the wedding planning is eating my brain and free time; but not being quite as stressful as I had anticipated, without the excessive self-medication I have to resort to during the holidays. It helps that I'm getting a lot of things done more quickly and easily than seems to be the case when other people plan their weddings. Taking the week before the wedding off of work is helping a lot. Not great for the bank account, but working wonders for my stress level. Particularly since I've been averaging over 60 hours a week for well over a year.
Found a couple of really unusual and interesting looking rings, which have already arrived.
deadrose's dress is sorted out and will be picked up later this week after alterations, along with the formal Prince Charles kilts for myself and my best man
ulrich. Nearly all of the decorations and other odds and sods are done, with a few more bits showing up within the next couple days.
And I finished the most important part today: the bar is fully stocked! Instead of the traditional champagne, which I'm not especially fond of (at least the stuff in my price range), I've picked up a case and a half of Rose de Cantillon lambic, which is fairly similar to good champange; and a half-dozen bottles of Couchen, a good Celtic mead. Still need to get the food and such together, but
sanobar is helping with that, so it should go great; with a predominantly Indian theme, including traditional Indian sweets from Punjab Sweets in Kent.
We're planning on an outdoor ceremony, and found a pretty decent 10'x12' gazebo at the Shoreline Albertsons. Normal retail was $450, got it on clearance for $100. Got it set up easily and smoothly in a couple hours. A lot of what we've needed and wanted has been on sale, and a few of the smaller shops that we shop at frequently gave us special volume/wedding discounts. It was nifty.
It helps that we're keeping the ceremony small, only few close family and friends. I really wish I could invite everyone, have a huge party with all my friends; but unfortunately, our budget simply won't allow it. I'm spending rather more than I intended to, but some things just strike me as things that we really need to do to make this whole process fit our personal sensibilities. Like the four cans of glow-in-the-dark silly string, and the wedding favours constructed primarily from materials from Archie McPhee. The theme of the wedding, if it can be said to have one, is sort of vaguely British Empire with a large splash of lunacy.
This is a bit rambling, but so is my brain right now. So I'll just say again that I really wish you could all show and share in the joy and raging silliness.
