Americans are the world's top consumers of cannabis and cocaine despite punitive US drug laws, according to an international study published in the online scientific magazine PLoS Medicine.

Despite having some of the most stringent drug laws in the world (outside of Muslim countried ruled by Shari'a law), and spending more in enforcement than any other nation, we have the highest per-capita drug use in the world. New Zealand is a close second.

The Netherlands, with much more liberal drug laws, has less than half the per capita drug use that the US or New Zealand does.

But the War on Drugs is working. ::rolleyes::
