Fucking Politics

On the good side, the US managed to elect a Black man for the first time in history. That's an incredible milestone. Something I honestly didn't think would happen in my lifetime. When I was first old enough to vote, this sort of thing was unthinkable. No way would the US ever elect a minority of any sort, let alone a black one. Hell, less than 10 years before I was born, electing a Catholic was considered a huge deal. Minority presidents were the realm of far-future speculative fiction.
On the bad side, we elected a slimy crypto-communist with strong ties to unrepentant domestic terrorists; whose polices on economics and foreign policy are... shit, I really don't have the words to express my thoughts on that right now. Not that the alternative was noticibly better (seriously, who the hell thought "Bush/Quayle Redux" was a good idea); but, fuck. At least we could have seen a better showing for third parties; but people don't seem to quite grasp what they're doing every time they vote "lesser evil". It looks like it's going to be business as usual as the country continues to slide down the shitter.
One step forward, two steps back.
