*sigh* Problem Child.
Jul. 9th, 2005 12:07 amCrap. I am at the end of my rope. I simply cannot get this dipshit snake to eat F/T anymore. I don't know why. It wasn't that hard to get him switched over last time; but now he will simply not eat anything but live, and has trouble even recognizing live mice as food. Every since his last fast cycle, he will not eat normally. I do not like feeding live, even as small as the pinkies and fuzzies he's been eating. I don't seem to have any choice, though. He won't even eat fresh pre-killed.
The last time he did this, I managed to get him switched over fairly quickly. No matter what I do, he just doesn't recognize the live mouse as food. At first I though he may simply have gotten shy, but leaving the mouse in the enclosure doesn't work; not even if i leave it overnight. I've tried scenting with with various things, but nothing helps. For some reason, it has to be moving just right. There doesn't even seem to be a colour preference anymore, like there was last time. I had hoped if I waited a few weeks longer than usual, he'd get hungry enough to take an F/T mouse, but it didn't work. He just looks at the thing like he doesn't know what it is. I've got a feeling that Dizzy's brain damage may be getting worse. I hope not. I really don't want to lose my snake.
I'm all out of ideas at this point. There's only one place in town that actually has live feeder mice available, that I know of, and I'm not real impressed with the quality of their shop (not real clean, though I've seen far worse). Unless someone else can suggest anything I haven't tried, I guess i have no choice but to feed live, and deal with the inevitable health issues.
